The Google Chrome team is happy to announce the arrival of Chrome 11.0.696.57 to the Stable Channel for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome Frame.  Chrome 11 contains some really great improvements including speech input through HTML.

Хорошая новость для любителей советских фильмов – сегодня был запущен канал Mosfilm на YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/mosfilm). Это первый в России партнерский канал YouTube, на котором пользователям будут постоянно доступны полнометражные картины. В других странах люди смогут увидеть киноленты Мосфильма с субтитрами.

Уже cейчас на канале представлены 50 кинокартин. Каждую неделю Мосфильм будет загружать туда пять новых фильмов. К концу 2011 года на канале появятся более 200 кинолент в высоком разрешении. Вот лишь некоторые из них:

Google выборочно цензурирует поисковую выдачу по просьбам правообладателей

По отдельным запросам, связанным, например, со "скачать", Google под поисковой выдачей (внизу страницы) стал отображать информацию такого вида:
"В ответ на жалобу, полученную на основании US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (Закона США о защите авторских прав в цифровую эпоху), мы удалили несколько результатов (а именно: *) с этой страницы. При желании можно ознакомиться с жалобой, вызвавшей это удаление, на сайте ChillingEffects.org".

Как сообщают "Ведомости", данная цензура и ограничение результатов выдачи связаны с удалением из результатов поиска ссылок на пиратские ресурсы по обращениям российских правообладателей без решения суда и не по запросам от властей. Примечательно, что основанием для цензуры является американский закон (DMCA), а не российские законы. Главный конкурентный поисковик Google в российском Интернете Yandex подобных цензурных ограничений не делает, что может привести к оттоку определенного контингента русскоязычных пользователей Google к последнему. Пресс-секретарь компании "Яндекс" Очир Манджиков прокомментировал ситуацию следующим образом: "Google действует на основании законодательства США, в российском законодательстве подобных требований нет. Поэтому удаление произвольно взятых результатов поиска будет, по сути, цензурой и нарушением права граждан на свободный поиск информации, гарантированного статьей 29 Конституции РФ".

Новый функционал загрузки файлов в Google Docs

В Google Docs добавлены три дополнительные функции для упрощения загрузки файлов: загрузка папок, интеграция в список документов загрузочных функций и функции перетаскивания (drag-and-drop).
Более подробно об этих функциях:
• Для последних версий браузеров Chrome, Firefox и Safari стала доступна возможность загрузки папок (с сохранением существующей структуры папок, включая подпапки, в коллекциях) через новое меню загрузки (для Firefox и Safari потребуется установка небольшого апплета).
• Функционал страницы загрузки объединен со списком документов и доступен через выпадающее меню (при использовании функции в окне в правом нижнем углу списка документов отображается прогресс загрузки). Настройки преобразования файлов в формат Google Docs или конвертации изображения для оптического распознавания символов (OCR) производятся через выпадающее меню загрузки или всплывающее окно. К сожалению, новые возможности загрузки не поддерживают возможности выбора языка при преобразовании документа с помощью OCR (Optical Character Recognition) или выброра настроек видимости перед загрузкой (для использования этих функций можно использовать старую версию загрузочной страницы, выбрав пункт "Основные..." из меню загрузки).
• При использовании Chrome, Safari или Firefox на Mac или PC доступна возможность перетаскивания (drag-and-drop) одного или нескольких файлов непосредственно в список документов или в коллекцию слева для начала загрузки (возможности загрузки методом drag-and-drop для папок нет в связи с браузерными ограничениями).

Simpler file upload in Google Docs

Last November, we added the ability to drag and drop files from your desktop to the upload page, improving the ability to upload any file. Over the next few weeks, we're releasing three additional features to make it easy to upload files to Docs: folder upload, documents list integration, and drag-and-drop upload.

To start, we've added folder upload via the new Upload menu in the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

You'll need to install a small applet to use folder upload in Firefox and Safari. The existing folder structure is preserved on upload which means that folders within folders will also upload and become collections within collections.

Second, we've merged the upload page's functionality into the documents list to create a much better upload experience. When you upload files via the new drop-down menu, a window will pop up in the bottom right of your documents list and show upload progress.


Once files are uploaded, they will appear in your documents list within seconds. You can also share them from the pop-up. Uploaded files go into the currently selected collection and have visibility set to private unless the collection is shared.

Upload settings have also moved. The first time you use the new upload method, you'll see a pop-up asking you whether you want to convert files to the Google Docs format and if you want to convert images via Optical Character Recognition (OCR). You can always return to these settings via the drop down in the upload menu or the pop-up.


Lastly, if you are using Chrome, Safari and Firefox on your Mac or PC, you'll also be able to drag-and-drop one or more files directly into your documents list to initiate an upload. You can even drop files directly into a collection on the left. Note due to browser limitations it isn't possible to drag-and-drop folders directly into the documents list.


If you hit your storage limit, the upload will return an error and you'll need to delete files or purchase additional storage for Google Docs for $0.02 per GB per month ($0.25 per GB per year). Please note that the new upload capabilities don't support the ability to select a language when converting a document via OCR (Optical Character Recognition) or select visibility settings before upload. If you'd like to use these features, you can still use the older version of the upload page by choosing Basic... from the Upload menu.

We'll be rolling this out to everyone with personal Google Accounts over the next month in all Google Docs languages. Rapid Release Google Apps users can expect to see the feature rolled out shortly thereafter. You'll know when the features are available to you when you see a popup message at the top of your documents list.

В Google Translate реализуется функция речевого ввода

После добавления в Google Chrome 11-й версии поддержки API голосового ввода, реализованного на HTML5, Google начинает внедрять использование данной функции в своих сервисах. Первой службой Google (за исключением голосового поиска для мобильных платформ), использующей функцию речевого ввода, стала Google Translate. Функция преобразования речи в текст становится доступной для английского языка, используемого в качестве исходного, при посещении Переводчика Google в браузере Chrome одиннадцатой версии или выше (Google Chrome Beta, Google Chrome Dev, Google Chrome Canary Build): в нижнем правом углу формы ввода появляется значок микрофона , при нажатии на который активируется ввод текста посредством преобразования речи, после чего производится мгновенный автоматический перевод распознанного текста.
Возможно, что в скором времени Google реализует в сервисе Google Translate подержку речевого ввода помимо английского и на других языках (подобно поддержке озвучивания текста для множества различных языков). Также не пропадает надежда, что функция речевого ввода не вытеснит собой функцию виртуальной клавиатуры, а лишь дополнит ее.

Google Translate, Now With Voice Input

Google Chrome 11 added support for HTML speech input API. "With this API, developers can give web apps the ability to transcribe your voice to text. When a web page uses this feature, you simply click on an icon and then speak into your computer's microphone. The recorded audio is sent to speech servers for transcription, after which the text is typed out for you."

Google Translate is the first Google service that uses this feature. If you use Google Chrome 11 Beta, Google Chrome 12 Dev/Canary or a recent Chromium build and visit Google Translate, you can click the voice input icon. Right now, this feature only works for English, so you need to select "English" from the list of input languages.


Unfortunately, the results aren't great. I tried to translate "beautiful sunshine" into French, but the speech-to-text engine didn't work properly and Google had to translate "wake up beautiful sunshine girl".

Новые возможности сервиса сокращения ссылок goo.gl

В веб-интерфейс сервиса сокращения ссылок Google (Google URL Shortener) goo.gl добавлены новые полезные функции и улучшения:
• возможность копирования автоматически выделяемого вновь сформированного короткого URL-адреса в буфер обмена по нажатию сочетания клавиш Ctrl+C (или Command+C на Mac);
• возможность скрытия ненужных ссылок из списка в панели инструментов (с возможностью их последующего восстановления в список при необходимости);
• возможность сообщения о goo.gl URL-адресах, приводящих на спам-сайты, с помощью использования формы спам-отчета goo.gl/spam-report;
• улучшенная скорость и стабильность.
Поиск по сокращенным ссылкам и добавление комментариев к ссылкам пока так и не реализованы.

Beefing up goo.gl with new features

Since we launched our URL shortener goo.gl last September, we've been lucky enough to build a thriving and growing community of passionate users who aren't shy about letting us know when something could be better. We appreciate the feedback, and today we've completed a series of feature rollouts aimed at addressing your most common requests.

Copy to clipboard

Now you can easily copy new short URLs to your clipboard, a frequently requested feature on our forums. When a new short URL is created, the text on the page will automatically be highlighted, and you can simply press Control+C (or Command+C on a Mac) to copy it.

Remove from dashboard

You can also now remove items from your dashboard, so that you can see a quick summary of only your most important links and hide the ones you no longer need. Please note that when you hide a short URL, you're only removing it from your own dashboard. The URL will still exist and work. You can't add short URLs back into your dashboard once you've hidden them, so be sure you won't need to find that short URL from your dashboard later. Remember that you can always view analytics for any of your short URLs by appending a "+" to the end of them (e.g., http://goo.gl/rQ6HT+). This feature will be rolling out over the next several days, and may not work immediately on mobile devices.

Spam reporting

Many of you told us that you'd like a way to tell us about goo.gl URLs that lead to spam sites. We recently set up goo.gl/spam-report for just that purpose. So far it's helped us a lot in identifying and blocking short URLs that lead to spam, so keep those reports coming.

Ongoing speed and stability improvements

Even as we add features, we continue to focus on making goo.gl one of the fastest and most reliable URL shorteners on the web. We'll continue working hard to ensure that we add minimal latency to the user experience and extend our track record of rock-solid reliability—we've had no service outages since we launched last September.

5 years of Google Calendar and a new (useful) favicon

On April 13th, 2006 we released Google Calendar to the world. What started as an experimental project by several Googlers has grown to become a service that millions of people rely on every day. From photography studios to schools to airlines to supermarkets, we discover new ways people are using Calendar all the time.

A birthday wouldn't be a birthday without a little present, so today we're happy to announce our latest tiny addition: the up-to-date favicon. When you look at the Google Calendar icon at the top of your browser window, it will no longer always display "31" but will instead change to reflect the current day of the month. Today's date is now always a short glance away.

If you don't see the new up-to-date favicon already, you should within the next couple of days. To keep up-to-date on all things Google Calendar, check out our Twitter account (and feel free to tell us how you're using Calendar too).
